Yesteryear Collection

This was the smallest of the famous sleeve-valve engined Daimlers and was made only in 1911. Known as the type A12, with an engine of 1.7 litres, this car had an unusual feature of Rudge-Whitworth wire wheels as standard equipment.

Daimler Motor Company Limited, was an independent British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in London in 1896 by HJ Lawson, with its manufacturing base in Coventry. The company bought the right to use the Daimler name simultaneously from Gottlieb Daimler and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft of Cannstatt, Germany. The company has built cars but is best known for the Daimler buses that have been built in large numbers. The brand has changed hands many times and is now owned by Tata.

In 1966 the (Y13-2) 1911 Daimler Type A12 joined the range. This model is a typical example of Lesney's pursuance of producing perfect miniatures.

Variations/Rarities: The body and bonnet are separate components and the main body colour can vary from lemon to pale orange, various combinations can exist on any one model.
Initially the steering wheel had five spokes and an advance/retard lever; but this was superseded by the more regular four spoke with no added detail. The five spoke steering wheel was fitted by locating in through the floor. This component also included two foot pedals. The four spoke steering wheel type had no pedals and the two small holes in the floor were eventually deleted.
The baseplate was changed/modified no less than seven times as a result of using this model in plated Giftware Series with the different methods of mounting on giftware being adopted.
Radiator grilles are not very well retained and can easily fall out. Grilles in green or red and grey tyres are the result of Lesney experiments/plastics trials and were not oficially released by the factory.
The black paint on the chassis can vary from a gloss to a matt finish.
The type 3 baseplate is maybe hard to find but other than that there are no rare variations.

A very common model to find in the plated series, probably the most common. It came in silver, gold and as part of the 'Golden Veterans' sets in the brassy gold colour.

In 1984 the model was issued as part of the Connoisseurs Collection in diffrent colours and had mask-sprayed/tampo printed enhanced detailing.
In 1997 the Daimler was re-issued as part of the 40thAnniversary celebrations of Models of Yesteryear.
